Based on your preferences, we provide you with information about one or more of our contracted senior living providers ("Participating Communities") and provide your Senior Living Care Information to Participating Communities. The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. A big hurdle for moving from 1 State to another State often will be what the new State requires to be considered a “resident” of the State and so able to apply for a State run program for their residents like Medicaid is.
& this unfortunately is all over the place as far as what the 50 states do. Some are all ok if you have the prior States drivers license or ID but do an intent (to become a resident)form within 30 days of entering the state. Others require the new State DL or IL, as well as bank statements showing an address in the new state. Some States (looking at you TX) have pretty intense documentation requirements to get a new License.
another glitch is if she owns a home in CA. Homestead will be exempt asset for CA but won’t be for NV. Ditto for autos but those you can easily register in the new state. On homes what seems to happen is property will need to be be put up for sale by a CA Realtor with an MLS listing. No Sale By Owner nonsense.
Families do get their elders moved but it will involve work on your part to get all the required done to the satisfaction of the new State. You may need to private pay for a bit till residency established. Good luck in your quest and please do let us know what happens as we all do learn from each other.
Just a thought… if elder is still somewhat able to easily move & adjust… look to see if there are health care & EMS agreements (code sharing) between health care providers on the CA & NV side. I know TX used to do this for up by Wichita Falls & over by Sherman with OK counties across the River as the OK side is beyond really bleak. If CA / NV do this perhaps get your elder moved to a NV place in this zone so she’s good and then segueways to NV eligible and moves closer 2 u if need be.
