Find Care & Housing
I bought my Mom coffee mugs with lids. They have handles. She took it to AL with her.

The mugs that the hospitals give you have a tight fitting lid and an opening that holds a straw or can just be sipped through. Every time I did a chemo infusion they gave me new mug. I sure didn't need 8 of them so I gave them to GoodWill with the idea that they might find their way to someone who was doing just what your mom does.

My feeling (b/c I DO own sippy cups on account of 14 grandkids) they are a but garish and I remember daddy feeling infantilized by them. Also the hospital mugs are not as HUGE as they used to be, and they stay cold/hot longer than a sippy.

Sippy Cups
Cups with lids that just have an opening. Even if she tips it over very little will come out.
A cup with a lid that has a straw though it. It might also spill a little but using a straw might be easier than a cup with a lid that has just a small opening. (even I have to look at the lid sometimes to get the opening right where I need it to get a sip.)
I would also place one of the absorbent pads next to her chair for any spills.

Get her an adult sippy cup. My son bought one on Amazon I believe for my mother when she was having difficulty swallowing. You can drop it on the floor and the contents won't spill out.

Thank you so much for your help!! I am so sorry to hear about your mother! It's very trying at times but we love her dearly & we don't want to put her in an AL facility unless that's the last resort! I apologize for not explaining in more detail. So here's the deal, she used to have plants throughout the house & we noticed her filling her water bottle over & over & over again & realized she was overwatering the indoor plants to the point that the wooden table is soft under the table cloth, there are also soft spots in certain parts of the floor. Anyhow, we removed all but 1 plant & now she's dumping her drinking water on the floor in her bedroom since her plants are no longer around. I don't know how to stop her, as I said before she is very combative & stubborn. Any help would be much appreciated!! We will definitely give the sippy cup a try. Also she's only 65 yrs old & is very healthy but she is unable to express herself. She's lost all her vocabulary, the only word she says is "there" when trying to express herself. It's very scary because I don't know if she's in pain because she can't express herself. I look at her body language to try to see how she's feeling but sometimes she just looks confused & it's so heartwrenching!! My poor fiance is suffering everyday & I just want to be his back bone throughout this difficult time for him. Any help is much appreciated!! Thanks to all & best of luck to everyone that is going through this!!
