It can be difficult to get into a Nursing home, as there is a limited supply of open beds. The good news is you have some time, so I would start now visiting various nursing homes in the area, meet with the admissions directors, and apply to the ones you like. If you find a facility with an open spot you may want to grab it now, move dad, and private pay until Medicaid is needed. Then you wouldn't have to worry about moving him anymore. So start now, 10 months will come and go before you know it. If you are not successful finding a spot in a Medicaid facility, and the time comes where he is out of money, you'll want to contact a state elder care social worker to help you. You can also try your local Agency on Aging for help and advice. Don't think you will have to take him into your home either. If you are unable to care for him, you are not obligated to do so. The social worker will be able to find safe placement for him if you were unable to. They won't just let him fend for himself in the streets.
