My mother is 87 years old, she was diagnosed with dementia about a year ago. She sleeps all day and sleeps/talks all night. For last week she seems sad all the time. I have to drag her out of the house when I am home.
She stays home alone for about 9 hours a day. I think she is lonely and sad. I'm thinking about leaving my job to be home with her more. But I still need to work. Anybody have ideas?

Find Care & Housing
A lot of insurances will pay a provider for in-home care and there are levels available. Some offer just companionship, some are more skilled, and some in between. I’d contact her insurance.

Thank you for you ideas. The thing is that my mother lives with me already. She nor I have the money to pay someone to take care of her while I'm at work. I'm looking for work at home work.

I hate looking at how sad and lonely she looks when I see her after I get home from a long day.

Quitting your job is absolutely not an option.

Hiring someone is a good idea, and/or a mild anti-depressant could likely help.

Don’t quit your job. Can you interview others for a caregiver? Remain being your mom’s daughter. Let someone else do the heavy lifting. Caregiving becomes harder and harder as it goes along. It adds stress to the relationship.

Continue to love your mom as her daughter. That is what is most important. Visit as often as you’d like.

Take care.

Home care while you are at work would be best to begin and see how it goes from there. I wouldn't advise quitting your job if you need to work. Can your mom pay for someone to come in for a few hours a day to help with chores and keep her company?
