My dad has lost his sense of direction in the house - in the sense that he no longer can find the bathroom on his own. He will pee on the carpet in the family room. My mom cleans it with a machine and it still smells. Has anyone had luck helping their loved one get their sense of direction back? We've put up signs pointing to the bathroom but that doesn't seem to help. Other than the peeing issue, he doesn't seem ready to go into a nursing home. I would hate to put him in one prematurely.
Would it help, I wonder if you put a bedside commode in the family room when he is in there? Or would he use a portable urinal? I know that you can encourage him to call you when he needs to pee and you'll help him to the bathroom, but I doubt he would reliably remember to do that, even if he agrees.
If you come up with a solution, come back and share! We learn from each other.
