My mom has sores on her legs and I have had the nurse at the ALF look at it. She has bandaged them, worked with the doctor and has wound care coming in. My problem is that my mom pulls the bandages off after they leave. I go to visit every day and find them removed and a small Band-Aid on the sore (that she puts on). Any suggestions on how to persuade her to leave the bandages on?
Ask the nurse to put these on after the wound change.
Not sure if your mom needs help dressing but how about leggings to cover the bandages?
norm). I will definitely look into the wraps. She seems a little anxious right now. We are also having problems with her taking her medication. Both of these behaviors are not normal for her. So, something else may be going on. Thank you for the helpful advice.
Try having them put socks on her, knee high or thigh high if needed.
there is a wrap that I get that is usually used for wrapping animal injuries. It is sometimes known as "Vet Wrap". It is not an adhesive but the wrap sticks to it's self.
The other option if the sores are not deep is to use a "liquid bandage" this comes in spray or one that has a little brush. It does an amazing job of covering, closing skin. I used it a LOT to help prevent a bruise from becoming a skin tear on my Husband.
Another suggestion might be to put gloves on mom so that she does not have the dexterity to remove a bandage.
And..
If the wound does not really need to be covered by a bandage maybe just leaving it alone might allow it to heal if she is not picking at it.
Obviously if it is a deep sore or weeping it should be covered or if it is in a location where it might easily become contaminated it needs to be covered.
