Jeanette - In my experience, Medicare does not pay for respite care. They WILL pay for up to 120 days in a nursing home as long as the patient is improving or receiving therapy in an effort to send the patient home.

If you wish to find out what's available in your area, contact your local Area Agency on aging to find out about senior day care programs, volunteers that might come into your home. You can also do a web search "paying for respite care" to find other resources and ideas.
Best of luck.
