Hello,
My mom and dad survive solely on SSI for living. However my grandpa left my mom amd dad some money when he passed a few years back. They dive into this occasionally. Maybe dads health has rapidly declined over the last year and so we are now using that savings to pay for in home aids to help with ADL’s. That money will soon be depleted in like 4 months. After that, we are stuck! No home care for dad and it is necessary every day. He is bed bound. I know at that point we could apply for Medicaid? They have no assets at all. But I’m worried about historical spending of this savings and it looking to Medicaid like they have resources. Not sure what to do!!!!! It keeps me up at night!

Start visiting places for them to live. Often a business manager in a NH is knowledgeable and helpful in the Medicaid process. Ask for guidance at places you’re interested in

I am with Mac on this. The money was spent on them for their care. If you kept good records, no problem.

You need to call Medicaid and find out when you need to apply. You don't wait till the money is gone. In my state, you have 90 days to apply, spend down and set up a facility to place them. Being a couple, I would question how the spend down works for them. My Mom was a widow. I started the application in April. She had w
20k so she paid privately for a NH for May and June. June I confirmed I had provided all info needed and spent down her money. Medicaid started July 1st.

You could have paid privately all along. Then transitioned into Medicaid. Its a lot easier to get them into a NH this way. Just make sure the NH accepts Medicaid.
