My loved one in memory care is being treated for Edema/ swollen feet & legs and none of her shoes or slippers now fit. I'm looking for shoe/slipper recommendations for this condition. Thank you.

Responses are great ideas. My suggestion may not be workable at all, but will offer it just as info. If there’s someone assisting with dressing, this could help. I suffer from edema in my feet and ankles. The stress on tissue can cause skin ulcers and invite infection. I now wear the large size Jobst knee-hi support hose in the lightest compression weight. Not difficult to get off and on because of the light compression (very similar to wearing ordinary knee socks, but with just a wee bit of compression). I got a size larger than what was recommended for my size calf/shoe size. I wear sock anklets over them, as stockings can cause slips/falls. My ankles and feet no longer swell and I wear these year-round. I purchase them cheap on eBay. They give great support and they actually feel great even in hot weather. I also take a prescription diuretic with prescription potassium for blood pressure control - but these alone don’t help swelling in ankles & feet. I was really surprised to find just the lightest level of compression was all I needed. I get them in skin tone. These are not at all like those extremely difficult surgical compression stockings (I’m familiar with those - had to put them on my mother after her knee surgery).

I've recently had success with getting shoes for my Mom on https://www.orthofeet.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2cL44_TR6QIVTr7ACh37zQlhEAAYASAAEgIwXvD_BwE

I ordered extra wide in her normal size and I chose style that close with velcro. They came quickly and all three pair were great.

Be sure to search for a coupon code online. I found one and got an extra 10% off.

My mother has the same problem with extreme swelling in both feet and legs and is in a skilled nursing facility. I found the Propet Cronus velcro shoe/slipper on Amazon. My mother loves it. The velcro is not only across the top of the shoe but also on the heel for adjustments. There is also an arch support if your loved one is able to stand/walk. They also have this slipper/shoe for men which I was able to purchase for my dad. I certainly hope this helps you and your loved one.

I just have to comment here that whatever solution ends up working for her, just please assess whether the shoe/sandal/slipper will now be a trip/fall hazard for her. I'd be happy for you if something fit her considering the edema, just please don't trade one problem for something that she could trip over.

My wife wore size 8 normally. While in MC her feet swelled up also. I went to Walmart and bought a pair of men's 11 tennies with Velcro strap for $10. She loved 'em.
