For the past 5 years every week I gets Mom's grocery list and head to the store. I am not in the best of health, this has become very tiring for me. Since my parents cannot get to the grocery store themselves there seem to be no option.
Well, yesterday I found a new option. Took Mom's grocery list and went grocery shopping on-line in the comfort of my own home. Then I could set a time where I would be able to pull up to the front of the store [curb-side service] and the attendant would get the order from a refrigerated/freezer compartments located in front of the building, and place Mom's order in my vehicle.
Since this was the first time doing this, Dad wanted to ride along with me to see how it worked. I had to laugh.... Dad said "this is the first time I've been grocery shopping and hadn't needed to unbuckle my seat-belt". It worked out great. After we got home Mom was pleased with the items, including the produce, and deli ham order.
What is great is that the website saved Mom's order, making it easy to re-shop next week. And this curb-side service is free. The grocery store also has at home delivery but there is a delivery charge. What a time saver and stress saver. Anyone else use this service?
I shop for my my Brother too. His gets delivered. He's a very busy man and appreciates it a lot.
I do find it comical, but sometimes frustrating, if I get her the same identical product through the on-line service as I would get inside the store, for some reason the on-line service product "taste funny"..... [sigh].
This on-line and curb pick-up service has been a welcome relief for my poor aching back.... inside the store all the reaching up to the top shelf for products, no fun when you are aren't real tall, and bending way down to get heavy cans off the bottom shelf and attempting to get yourself upright afterwards :P Whew !! And in today's world, gone are the young high school guys who use to load your groceries into your car. One has to do it yourself or ask the cashier if someone is available to help.
This on-line service also has home delivery for a fee... sounds great for those times when you can't get out of the house :)
Of course back then, one only had party-line hand crank telephones so you had to wait until whomever was on the party-line to finish before you could get the *operator* to connect you to the grocery store.
I know of at least one store here in St. Louis that does this and maybe our 2nd biggest chain does as well. It's perfect for the elderly and is a wonderful service.
I checked to see if the company I use has service in upstate or western NY but it doesn't :[
