I took mom yesterday to her PCP to talk about getting her a walker. The Dr looked over mom's general records and asked me if mom is not getting her Covid shot & her records indicate that I said "since mom doesn't go outside, she doesn't need a Covid shot."

I was very stunned by the Dr's comment about mom not going outside - I most certainly did not say such things. When I argued with the Dr about the "outside" comment, she just said kept insisting she only wrote down what I said.

Mom got her Covid shot in Feb/March and got the booster & flu shot also a month ago. Maybe I forgot to upload the Covid card to the Dr's email but Im sure I had given them dates of the shot.

The Dr's office has only one receptionist who's studying to be a nurse and doesn't return calls promptly. The Dr - she's a geriatrician - had a Google rating of 3.5 when I was looking to pick a PCP.

Should I shop around and look for another Dr? Should I let this incident slide? The Dr is otherwise ok , ie, not very chatty but I like that office is never crowded and there's no wait time to see her. Mom is also doing ok under her care with the medications she's prescribed.

Weary, I think we would all be beyond surprised to see what our medical records actually say. It is very common for an interpretation of what the doctor thinks you said to be put in our charts and not reflect what was actually said in the least.

This is why having a medical advocate is so very important.

I had to fight my insurance company about another big increase and when they said it's because I have xyz diagnosis I was floored. Where did that come from? Yep, medical chart that read like a fiction.

You now know that you have to be diligent with how you say things and make sure that the chart is semi correct, because I think that's the most we can hope for.

If it were me, I’d chalk it up to “this is her get out of jail free card”, and be hopeful that it will be the last of it.

It continues to happen, I’d definitely shop around. The doctors I’ve had that are awesome have never had a problem admitting that they didn’t know something, or that they made a mistake. It’s the ones that don’t listen and always insist that they’re right that I have a real problem with…

I would nor argue about the notes being wrong. Maybe it was just a misinterpretation. Sometimes a word is leftbout and it changes everything.

Your Mom now has her shots, so take her card, take a copy and have it put in her file. A walker should have nothing to do with going outside. My Mom used hers all the time at the AL.

JoAnn, mom's walking was quite scary when she was outside in the summer and that's what got me thinking me about the walker. I had posted about thisI worry that she will clutch me and I will fall too.. Now of course mom finds it too cold and windy to go outside.

Thank you for your feedback
