My husband has major depressive disorder. He has become suicidal at times. Last Friday he tried to take his life. He is home and he told his doctor he gets lonely during the day, I work the doctor is trying to get him into an outpatient facility, but that will only last for a week or two. He really needs to have someone friendly to visit with a few times a week, just to talk. Is there an organization that anyone knows that would be able to help.

oops. NAMI has support groups for both the diagnosed and their family. Best wishes.

Check your area for a NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness) group. They have tons of resources available and can get you the help your husband needs. Their services are free.

We are trying to get him into a day facility, there are waiting lists. He has been in psychiatric facilities and it helps for awhile and then a relapse. The day facility will only take him for two or three weeks, I am looking for continuing support.

Why on earth was he brought home? He should have been sent to a psychiatric facility for rehabilitation. This is not something you can fix with visitors. Rethink your strategy and get him in for treatment, PLEASE.
