I would suggest taking your dad to seniors centre during the day. There he will find people his own age. He could join an activity and a chance to talk with others.
After my dad's stroke, he was home bound a lot. In hindsight, I made a terrible mistake. I should have made more of an effort to get him back to this McDonald's coffee group. I think he missed his friends terribly.
Does your dad have some friends he might get together with once a week or every morning?
Does Dad belong to a church? Some churches have meeting specifically for elders, and he might get to know some people he'd only nodded to in church.
Contact the Area Agency on Aging (if you are in the US or its equivalent elsewhere) and ask about support groups. Also call mental health clinics to see if they sponsor any such groups.
I hope you find something. Do let us know -- other people will be interested.
