Find Care & Housing
I have a bit of a different perspective on this. When my Mom became ill with sepsis which led to kidney failure and congestive heart failure where she nearly died. She spent six weeks in hospital where it was touch and go for a while, then another six weeks in a rehab facility where she never really got with the program and asked repeatedly "Why am I here?" She had absolutely no recollection of how serious her condition had been. She just kept saying "I want to go home" So finally against our wishes they released her back to her home where we had home health care and myself looking after her. To make a long story short, when she first arrived back home she looked around like she had no clue where she was. Home really wasn't home anymore to her.

Someone said earlier that when dementia patients say they want to go home sometimes that just means to an earlier time in their head where things were right and true and comfortable. Just food for thought.

Gershun, In agreement with your perspective. Years ago my aunt was in a very nice home with only 4 ladies being cared for. When I visited, she said she wanted to go to her old address, so taking her in the RV by that address, she did not know it., looked perplexed. She had also said, when I first saw her and said hello, that she did not know why God was keeping her alive this long. I explained it was for me, so I could see my aunt again.

I was especially moved by Sendme2help Give a Hug's reply. What a loving answer! A reason to live given from the heart. What a comfort that must have been for her Aunt to cherish. I will always remember that with the old friend I am currently taking care of. That phrase put a smile on my face and comfort to my heart.
