My two brothers and I are the only family for our cousin. She will have to stay in a nursing home long term she is not strong enough to go home too many health issues. She was at home with 24/7 care givers but her health has declined to much for that. We now have to sell her condo how do we tell her? We have always told her she need to get stronger to go home now that is not a option. Her money will run out in a few months.
I noticed my Mom, who was living in long-term-care, was saying she wanting to go home. Ok, which home? One clue was she kept asking about the cattle. Then we knew which home she was referring... her childhood home.
For selling your Cousin's condo, if the condo shows well, that would be ideal. If it needs updating, don't try to deal with that... sell it "as is" as there are enough flippers out there who will be interested. I sold my parents house "as is", my Dad was happy with the price, same with the buyer, it was a win-win.
Thanks so much for your answer! My brother has power of attorney for health another nephew has it for finances. She is in and out of remembering things for the most part she is with it. Great idea to get the doctors involved thank you! It is a heart breaking situation.
Does your Loved One have dementia, or is she compis mentis enough to recognize that her health has declined to the point that she can no longer live at home?
I'm usually in favor of getting a medical professional to deliver this news, with family present for support. Look at it this way. Most people view their younger relatives as "children" with no real knowledge of the world. A doctor is a person of authority in the eyes of most elders.
