My experience might be interesting if you are thinking of travel in a truck to transport an older person. !,000 miles in a truck did me (aged 75) no good. Everyone said in advance that I could relax in the trucky’s bed at the back of the cabin, and it would be fine. But the road had bounces that weren’t apparent in a car, which I did the last time, and the bounces did my back no good sitting up. Then when I retired to the trucky bed, it was comfortable but I bounced up and down anyway. OK at the time, but not so good the following morning. Three days’ later, I am just starting to recover. It has given me a lot of pain, so think twice about this way to move.
My oldest daughter said, “Let’s go look at luxury RVs and if we ever win a lottery we can buy one! LOL 😆
I told her, “Sure, I’m game!” So, off we went. Oh my gosh! The prices of those luxury RVs are crazy! They better be comfortable riding in them.
They are super nice though and some of them were bigger than my brother’s first apartment that he had in New York!
My daughter said that the ride moving back from Denver to New Orleans was so boring. That long drive through Texas is a killer.
Fortunately, her friend flew into Denver and shared driving back to Louisiana with her dog and all of her belongings They stopped along the way to sleep in hotels, so they didn’t exactly rough it.
I look at truckers on the road sometimes and think how stressful their job must be like.
I find it interesting that retired people buy RVs and live in them permanently. I would crash the thing in one day’s time! I can’t imagine parking the thing, or even driving one. I would have to hire a driver.
The really expensive ones have a garage inside the RV, where they park their cars inside of it.
My daughter and I watched a show on the super rich people who own custom built RVs. Unbelievable! But if a person has money to burn, why not spend a million plus dollars on a luxury RV.
I have heard stories about folks who used a small foam topper, but as you say, you are still going up and down and sometimes even MORE easily. They say frequent stops but then you are up and down out of a truck.
I have a friend who has a bad hip now and has only a sport car and a truck and boy, is THAT messed up.
Good thoughts to you Margaret & your poor back. May any strains be minimal & very temporary.
So sorry that your back is hurting. I’m glad that you are starting to feel a bit better now.
How are you otherwise? It’s such a big Job to move to a new location. You’ll be busy getting settled into your new place.
