My mom uses a walker and has leg weakness. She does not have diabetes. So I am wondering if certain styles are considered safer than the standard slip on kind that she currently owns but needs replacing.

Make sure they have a sole that doesn't slip easily. The rubber type that has ridges. Also they should have a back on them, not the kind that flop as you walk. Think safety first and then comfort. My mother had a pair of leopard skin ones that were in the ballerina style. That was all she wanted to wear. She felt safe in them and she could get them off and on easily which is another important factor.

Dear caregivingstuff,

When my dad was in the hospital, my sister found a pair of slippers that have lights on the front of them. This may help if your mom wears slippers at night going to the bathroom.
