My 90 year old Mother was recently admitted to a rehab facility to strengthen her legs because she had been falling frequently. Two days ago she woke up confused and didn't remember her name. She wheeled herself out to the nurses station to ask who she was. After much gentle prompting and Mom still not remembering the nurse finally told Mom her name. Mom then remembered what Dad's name was and she recognized that the pictures on her wall was of her children. The next day I asked the nurse if they had checked for a UTI. They hadn't but after my inquiry she said they would. We are now waiting for the results.
If this suddenly happens to your loved one, be certain to ask the physician to check for a UTI or bladder infection.
Hope your mom is feeling better soon.
After many X-rays done on my mom recently, I suggested a U test for bladder infection. Just couldn't sleep knowing my mom was in pain, and I had to think of something else to check into. The staff NH dr comes in 2 times a week. It's up to family members to request tests necessary for our loved ones. Nurses and aids don't always do a thorough check and follow thru. Good for us!!!
