My godmother had to be placed in a long-term living facility. We are now being forced to sell her home. Does the home has to be sold while she is still alive? Where will the money go?

If she is on Medicaid or will need Medicaid within the next 5 years, the house needs to be sold at Market Value. The proceeds from the sell go towards her care. If she is on Medicaid, she will go off and the proceeds will need to be spent down, then back on Medicaid. If she is paying privately, it will have to be used for her care. Its her money and must be used for her.

Mzvanillak72, we need more information.

Curious why "we" are being forced to sell your Godmother's home. Did she have a Reversed Mortgage where the paperwork states that if the mortgagee is placed in a long term care facility for a certain amount of time, the reverse mortgage becomes due and payable?

Or is the home being sold to help pay for the long-term living facility? I remember when my Mom was in a nursing home, it was $12k a month, and Dad was paying for the cost.

And I believe , if on Medicaid and home is sold after death, Medicaid will claw back for care$$$

How is the long term care facility being paid?

If godmother has the funds to pay for care for as long as she needs, there is no need to sell the home. Except that maintaining an empty home is expensive and inconvenient for whoever has to manage it.

If Medicaid is paying for her care, her home is an exempt asset. But again, an empty home is expensive and if gm is on Medicaid, she has no funds to pay for upkeep, taxes, etc.
