I get FIL, MIL, LO, IL, AL and MC. But what is DH? Dear Husband? Divorced Husband? Is there an index somewhere that explains the more commonly used abbreviations? Thanks!

Find Care & Housing
When I first came on this forum I was wondering why older folks were all moving to Alabama [AL], New Hampshire [NH] and Illinois [IL], not realizing the abbreviations meant Assisted Living, Nursing Home, and Independent Living :P

I know for myself, I try not to use abbreviations whenever I write on this forum to make for an easier and less confusing read :)

I use it as a mental challenge. One like SIL can be sister in law or son in law so you have to know the specific situation. Also whose SIL? Then there is NH for nursing home. Ot for occupational therapy and we all know PT but have to be sure one is not indicating part time. It is all a form of Scrabble and Charades. I inwardly compliment myself when I feel I have figured out one on my own.
