What happens is that those who have condemned it have to be told the person has nowhere to go. Then Adult Protection should get involved. They can find the person a place to stay and get her belongings out.

Usually a house is not condemned on the spot. There is some paperwork generated and the person should have time to vacate the property.

In addition, talk to the condemning authorities and find out why it is condemned - is it safe to remove some belongings? If so, help your neighbor rent a storage area and get as much of their stuff as practical out until another home can be located.

The salvation army should be able to assist with emergency accommodations and the Area Agency on Aging or Adult Protective Services should help find a long term home. Some nearby churches may also help.

How old are they? 65 or more?

County Social Services should be working to find them placement .

If you are a concerned friend/neighbor, you can call Adult Protective Services to make them aware of vulnerable adults.
