I visit a va nursing home resident. Living in a geriatric institution gets little except room and board and lots of drugs. So sad. Little help from officials.

Isn't proper social life a law?

Who will fight for them?

Forget veteran org

Find Care & Housing
Social activities there have gone down hill in the last two years. For one thing the men are housed in a locked unit even though there is no threat .By law its illegal but try and find legal help especially VA .The only reason I can see them being there is to provide jobs.Congress wont help at least the reps we have in NYS.

He must have a social worker from the VA. Maybe you can ask to talk to that person. I hope you are able to get someone's attention for your friend's situation.

IF the facility isn’t offering activities, you could always try to find out why and see what can be done about it. Since you volunteer, maybe you could get other groups to volunteer? Girl Scouts & Boy Scouts for example. My FIL was in a nursing home, not a VA home but the VA was contracted with them and they had a full calendar of activities. There was something for everyone but again.....they couldn’t force people to participate. There were activities geared toward everyone and some that were geared toward women only and men only (I think everyone was allowed to participate though).
