Dad has been going to group therapy for depression. The therapy has not helped, in fact it finally led to a diagnosis of dementia which we have suspected for a long time. We live with my fil and have for over 3 years to take care of him. He just becomes more difficult all the time. I was (in a way) thankful for the diagnosis - the validation of someone ELSE - a professional - saying 'there's more to this then meets the eye." But now what do we do? We were told to get a hold of the Alzheimer's association but what can we expect and where do we go from here?
There is also plenty of information here that you can find by doing a search site from the upper right hand corner of this page.
I am sorry to hear of your situation, but it is good that he now has the correct diagnosis. He will continue to decline and if not already, will need 24/7 care which is not possible for one person to do for someone with this disease. He may need to eventually have to go a memory care unit in a nursing home.
