I forgot to add that there are companies that you can pay for professional visitors to come and spend time with the loved one each week. I was going to hire one for my cousin, but the Assisted Living told me that they had volunteers from a local church who did it for free. I just added her name to the list and they came to see her several times a week.

Have you considered a Senior Day center that she could spend the entire day with proper supervision of course, so that you could get some time for yourself? I realize there is a charge for this kind of care.

I know that when my cousin was in this stage, she could get easily overwhelmed with too much noise or activity. I'd try to find a place where they understand and may provide her with quiet time when she needs it.

There should be a Center, where I live it is called: Senior Citizen Center, and they have a lot of stuff going on.
Check your local city. Call the City Hall. They have those phone numbers that are extremely hard to find.
Google? If you know the exact name of the place.
Would her Doctor, or the staff at the doctor's office know? Call them too.
So sorry Kevin, your wife is only 58, and it is so tough to go thru with the elderly, I cannot imagine what it would be like with a young spouse.
Glad you came to the site. You will find awesome people, awesome advice, and just plain company. You are not alone, we as caregivers are in a league of our own.

These are some possibilities for interaction, depending on her level of participation:

Senior center activities, not just in your area but in other areas as well, for maximum numbers of activities; Jewish Welfare Federation activities, such as adult day care.

Ask the local Alzheimer's Assn. what activities they might recommend.
