My dad has been going down hill in the past 10 months but now I can tell he is getting worse everyday ... I can hear his lungs fill up with fluid and he sleeps 75% of the time...I’m on my own with everything and I have no idea where to begin... Can someone PLEASE give me any advice?

Find Care & Housing
I'm surprised his primary care doctor hasn't suggested hospice to him already. That's how it worked with my mother. In fact, the doctor called hospice and sent them over here, because my mother had alarming symptoms and refused to be admitted to a hospital.

I would definitely call your father's doctor and ask her/him for the referral Hospice will give you lots of help and reassurance. Good luck!

Start with your Dad's own doctor. Tell him that you cannot go on this way, and need help. Is your Dad on palliative care? Does he have Congestive Heart Failure? How old is your Dad. I am assuming he lives with you. Definitely start with his own doctor. If you cannot get help and you are at the end of your rope, admit your Dad to the Emergency Room. He will likely qualify just with the fluid buildup in the lungs. One there tell them that you cannot and will not take your Dad home again, and request a Social Worker at once. Take care to know that it is their job to try to get you to take Dad home and they will promise you things such as "We will make this work" and "We can get you help". Honestly the cannot, and you will be back where you started. Don't argue with them. Just keep telling them that you cannot mentally or physically take Dad home again. They will begin to work on placement. They can do qualifying your dad much more quickly than you could do it; they are very skilled and have the resources and can jump the waiting lists.
Wishing you good luck and hoping you will update us.

I had ER doctors and my LO's primary suggest Hospice and I was in agreement. The MC actually contacted Hospice and they met me at the facility to provide their information, answer questions and to evaluate my LO. They moved very quickly and got on board, providing her what she needed, like a bed, proper wheelchair, etc. in just a few days. From what I have learned since then, a family member can call a Hospice company directly to ask about an evaluation. They have their own doctor.

You can also call the local Area Agency on Aging.

Trish, have you spoken to your dads doctor about his condition? Most times, doctors recommend hospice for their patients.
But you can also call a hospice organization to arrange an assessment.

Have you looked for a non profit hospice org in dad's area?
