My mother has basically put her life on hold to care for my aging grandma; her mother and I was wondering if there is a way to have the state or anywhere to help her in any way financially or if she can get paid to be her caregiver?

Your mother can be paid by your grandmother for her care. This would make your grandmother an employer and she'd need to report the payments and comply with state employment tax laws. Even if your mom was to be paid by another source, it is usually not a high enough wage and usually not full-time hours, no benefits or vacation paid time off, etc.

If your grandmother needs an increasing amount of hands-on care, she can start by contacting social services in the county where she lives to see if she qualifies for any services they can provide (and it won't be much). She should probably apply for Medicaid if she is ready for either long-term care or memory care in a facility. At this point your grandmother needs to be very careful not to give cash or write checks to people so that it appears to look like "gifting", something that may delay or disqualify her from getting Medicaid assistance. The Medicaid application "look back" period can be up to 5 years, depending on her state of residence.
