I'm a 51 year old female living in a nursing care facility because of a car accident and I'm my own guardian and I receive a $50 allowance and I receive a divorced widows spouse benefits and have Medicaid. In June I will be receiving Medicare and it will be effective so I can be eligible for physical therapy to learn to transfer myself and use a Walker and move into a handicap apartment. But my question is will the nursing home take the stimulus money package from the residents and myself and do we get anything?

I read that the stimulus checks will not affect eligibility for Medicaid for twelve months.

Medicaid differs from state to state so you will need an answer from your state's Medicaid office. My understanding is Medicaid pays the portion not covered by your monthly income stream, excepting for your allowance. If the stimulus payment is more than the amount Medicaid pays for your monthly expenses, I would expect the excess to be deposited into your allowance account for that month, unless your state has some kind of immediate Medicaid recovery provision. Most Medicaid programs only try to recover funds from any estate after death. If the payments were to come to you directly and in full, be sure to spend some of the first payment so you don't go over the $2000 asset limit used by most Medicaid programs and become disqualified.

Regardless of the state, the stimulus isn’t income so the payment won’t be counted as income & go to the nursing home. If anything it will be an asset, which if counted as an asset, will have to be spent down.
