My Dad's currently living with my brother. His wife takes care of him. I'm in charge of his medical and finances. I will like to get information on assistance(financial) for my brother's wife as she is currently taking care of my father. He is 84 years old, has dementia and other problems. He can't do much anymore on his own.

For god's sake she is getting his social security check isn't she? How much does she need?

Those SS checks don't go too far. They take care of the father, but SIL still needs her own pay. I am glad you are concerned, blanca. If your father has low income he may qualify for help either through Medicaid or the VA. If he qualifies, there is some money to pay a caregiver for in-home care. I think it is about $2K a month. If your father has too much income, you can draw up a caregiver contract with your father and SIL, agreeing to pay her a certain amount a month. I smile just thinking about how much better a little extra money will make her feel about herself. It is not so much the money, it is the letting her know she is appreciated and loved. I'm glad you are thinking about her.

I should have said that if he has too much money, the contract would be your father's money that would be paid to her. I wasn't clear on that. I forget that others can't fill in my sketchy logic.

My mom's social security is $104.00 a month. That isn't enough to pay for her food for two weeks.

I agree with Jessie, your sister-in-law should be paid for caring for your dad. Call your local area Agency on Aging, they should be able to help you find all sorts of resources whether your dad has money or not.
