I am a 72-year-old U.S. veteran looking for help in paying my expenses at an independent care facility, Champlin Shores in Champlin, MN. My wife is currently in a different nursing home. Champlin Shores has a memory care facility in the same building and I would like to get my wife moved there, so we can be in the same building.
ALF and memory care is almost always self pay and it is very expensive. The expense for two I can't quite imagine and you really don't need that care. There are some facilities that have cottages with different levels of care needs and that would be ideal, but I can't imagine getting access to it without a good deal of saved wealth, which is hardly the norm for ANY of us.
I hope you will update us if anyone at VA or anyone else has any ideas for you.
Best of luck.
MCs are private pay. Even if being in one qualified your wife for A&A, its not enough to cover the cost of MC. MCs are only a step up from an AL. There comes a time that they can no longer care for a resident so a NH is needed.
Call your County VA office. Make an appt to see them or ask to have them to visit you. Have your military records available. They will go thru what you and your wife qualify for.
contact your local VA County office, and make an appointment. I used my county VA office and was the best resource. They helped me make the application for aide and attendance for my mom.
I would do this first thing, and get the ball rolling.. I wish you blessings …
