Her stroke 6 months ago affected her right side; she is stand by assist and a bit unsteady and impulsive ( sometimes tries to get up and walk without asking for help) and the biggest fear I have is her falling. No more do any facilities restrain patients in bed, so am considering a hi/lo bed for her. She can fall at home, too, but I watch her like a hawk (exhausting!) and her bed at least has side rails for nighttime, which she sleeps through. Shes a level 3, needs a Type B facility. Can anyone recommend a company they've had experience with? I've toured Brookdales and local ones. Anyone use Sagora, Sorrento, etc?
I just can't care for her in my home anymore. We both need more social and alone time and in home care is too expensive for the time I need. She will enjoy her independance, too, and we can spend time with her and bring her home once weekly. We need to regain quality time together, not the quantity time with few hours away from each other. Thanx for listening.

I can't speak to your questions about a facility recommendation but in the meantime to get a break you can consider help from an in-home service like Visiting Angels. We use them for family in FL and have been very pleased. Good luck!

Yes, we have a wonderful Caregiver 3 x a week through a great agency, though this gets really expensive to add hours...not sure I am OK hiring someone that is not affiliated with an agency.

Do you have any of those folk like A Place For Mom who will tour you around to facilities. We used these when finding placement for my brother's good friend and they were great. They do gather your financial information, and have you do a needs form. And then they take you to the places. They have so much knowledge of the good points of each, the costs, the levels of care. For us it was two women and they were just wonderful in giving ideas of what might be the best fit. They are paid by the final facility you choose, so there is no cost to you.
On another note, I am glad you recognize the limitations of all this and are moving forward with loving care. My best to both of you.

I do have a contact. I did not realize they would personally take you around. I'll call her!

My folks were in Brookdale which was HORRENDOUS and I moved them to a wonderful community after endlessly battling one thing after another with them. I never received ONE correct bill in 9 months! Avoid corporate owned facilities like the plague....that is my recommendation. They're out for money only, in my experience, focused on bottom line profits instead of resident care and happiness. My folks were placed in a privately owned AL where my mother is still residing after 4+ years. I never received ONE INCORRECT bill in 53 months! The level of care and activities is wonderful, and the staff is reachable all the time. I can't tell you the difference I've seen between corporate (I work as a receptionist at a corporate owned Memory Care AL) and private. Be sure to tour some places and ask the RESIDENTS how they like living there, and the CARE GIVERS how they like working there.
Best of luck to you!
