Does anyone have any experience with CKD? My FIL has an indwelling foley catheter, and gets a few UTIs every year. With his most recent one, his eGFR dropped from 53 to 42 in just 2 weeks. The nurse practitioner thinks this is due to dehydration, but I am skeptical. I could see chronic dehydration, but I was making sure he had actually increased water in those 2 weeks. Is this just the UTIs taking their toll on his kidneys?TIA!

GFR < 60 always worth considering as to what and why.
This question about what may cause the glomular filtration rate changes is for the doc, I think. There may be medications involved. I would also think that dehydration thing a good guess because as an RN we never had elders come into ER without being dehydrated by bloodwork. We tend not to drink a lot because we are going here or there and don't want to need the facilities, because we have less drive to drink.
The internet is your friend with these numbers and what they can or may be and when to worry and about what, but so can your doc.

I would do the remeasure when the doc suggests it be done, and THEN worry.
