Mum is 87 had dementia for 14 years now. Has to be fed by a teaspoon as in case she chokes and has a supplement too in liquid form. Just lately she just stares into space. She can’t do a single thing for herself. And she cannot really speak it maybe the odd yeah. Care home getting her cot sides for her bed as they are concerned she may fall out as seems to move around in bed. She used to just lay there but now maybe getting agitated and restless! I'm not sure . Does anyone have any idea if this is the very end stage approaching us very soon

many thanks
Sharon

14 years is a long time for Dementia. Yes, agitation is a sign of end stage. With my Mom she started humming and she got louder as the days went on. Before that she could not stay in one place. She scooted all around in her wheelchair and got upset if u tried to stop her. One day she just shut her eyes. Then she wouldn't allow the aides to get her out of bed. Then not able to swallow and Hospice was called in. She was 89. She passedv6 days later.

You say Care Home so I am assuming ur in the UK. If they have Hospice, I would have them come and evaluate. There is medication for the anxiety. Not goid for them to have it. She will be kept comfortable.

Hi thank you for your advice. Mum can’t walk can’t do a thing . She was in independent living for 5 years and now been in residential care for 3years. Such a cruel disease. The carers are taking good care of her but heartbreaking to see
thanks again

alfirjack21 My Mother has been "end stage" for a very long time now. I thought to myself, since the early stages, there is no way to predict the end of life.
