We live in Alaska and went through a state program that helped with installing a wheelchair accessable bathroom. It was through the Alaska Community Development Program. We were on the waiting list for about 4 years, but it may be different in your area. Check with the local brain injury foundation, disability center, Alzheimers association, and State websites, Hospice, maybe even a social worker at your local hospital. We were also able to get a chair lift installed so checking any resource is worth the time. Good luck in your search.

Contact your church, city, or some homebuilders here in AZ have a program to install fences around pools. Maybe you could ask if Home Depot will do it inexpensively. I know they have employees that donate their own time to go help veterans spruce up their homes (for free). Good luck!

Our local Office of the Aging has a program where you have repairs such as this done to your house by volunteers...all you have to do is provide the materials. Check into that in your local area.
