My mother passed away May 2016. My father passed away January 13, 2017. There is no estate, probate, executor. Mom had SS. Dad had SS, military retirement, and disability. There is no money, what little they had went for medical, hospice, assisted living, and funerals. Do taxes need to be filed? There is no money. Who would be responsible for filing their taxes?

Find Care & Housing
Check with a CPA to see if you need to file taxes for your parents. There might be a special form that needs to be filled out, I am not sure. Do you know if your parents paid estimated quarterly income taxes?

My late Dad's social security and his pension were considered income which is taxable, along with interest from savings/checking accounts, etc. I am in the middle of this "job" of gathering up a lot of paperwork. With write offs, the Estate might get a refund.
