Did you move to care for William or are you William?
I don't know that perfection exists on this earth in any timeline of our lives, and certainly perfection will be difficult to find in Senior Living facilities where in fact you will be living in an environment with others. My brother and I sometimes laugh that his own Assisted Living, wonderful that it is, can descend into the communal living of the 60s we grew up in, with a bicker here and there, and one concern or another requiring "community meetings" and negotiating. But it comes down to choice and affordability for those looking. To look itself is free, and tours are given, often there are companies paid by the facilities themselves, not by the "looker", so they are free, and those giving you the tours will know when you say what your preferences are which facilities may be the best fit. Again, perfection doesn't exist, but a best fit might. And best of luck.
Chillwill, it depends on what type of housing you are searching. And the price will depend on the area that you live, and what is all included in the price. A place could be lower price but you would be paying al la cart for special care that you would need, such as housekeeping and linen service.
Some seniors will go to a 55+ community, one either purchases a small single family home or a condo. Prices depend on what benefits the community has, such a tennis, indoor pools, restaurants on-site, and other amenities.
Some seniors will go to an Independent Living community, and they will rent an one or two bedroom apartment. The cost in my area is $5k-6k per month which includes once a week housekeeping, once a week linen service, 1 or 3 meals in the restaurant style dining room, entertainment, and a nurse on duty around the clock. Best to find a community that also offers Assisted Living for when that time comes in the future.
If a senior needs help with showering, dressing, mobility, then Assisted Living is a good choice. The apartment is usually studio size. Daily housekeeping, daily linen service [the facility supplies the bedding and towels], 3 meals, entertainment, and of course nursing services. Cost in my area $7k-$8k per month.
If a senior has memory issues, Assisted Living/Memory Service is a good choice. The Staff in that section are very familiar with the challenge of memory issues. Costs a bit more compared to regular Assisted Living. Very safe environment.
According to a quick online search, your new town of Littleton, NC has a population of around 700, so I don't know if there are any nearby resources for seniors. If there is a senior center, I'd drop by and chat with the locals. And maybe you could try calling a local real estate agent to ask their advice on safe neighborhoods.
Another thought: visit the public library and see if the reference librarian can offer some ideas for finding whatever type of housing or facility you're seeking. I've found reference librarians to be very helpful. I used to live in your beautiful state and know most Southerners would be happy to help a newcomer!
