Which I did not allow. I searched and could not find a bug and I had a feeling he was imagining the bug. Then at breakfast, he sat down with a bowl of cereal and says a bug flew into it and he threw it all down the garbage disposal. I asked him if he was sure he saw a bug and he said absolutely. Anybody else have experience with hallucinations of bugs?

Although this might very well be a hallucination I wonder if he has had his eyes checked recently? I find as I get older I have a lot more floaters and they could easily be confused with something like "bugs".

Yes. This could be a symptom of a larger problem.

My first experience was my FIL had a head trauma. During his hospitalization he began to see “things” which turned out to be a symptom of his sodium level being off. As the sodium level was adjusted his vision seem to return to normal (stopped seeing bugs) before the sodium returned to normal. That was a bit difficult.

A friend told a story of his father seeing insects when he was going through alcohol detox. After the detox the symptoms went away.

Then of course, there are floaters that people sometimes get in their eyes.

There may may be many more reasons this is happening. These are just the ones I’ve had experience with.

As always start with his PCP for blood work to help you sort this out.

belindaparis, bet hubby has an Urinary Tract Infection. Have hubby see his primary doctor or urgent care doctor for an UTI test. Such an infection in us seniors can cause all types of strange situations.

When my Dad first started to see ants on the walls and ants in his food, right away he had an UTI test [easy, pee in a cup], and sure enough that is what he had. Once the antibiotics kicked in, the ants went away :)

My Mom has Lewy-Body Dementia. One of the symptoms/characteristics LB is hallucinations. Has your husband had a stroke within the last 10 yrs? You need to get him tested for it. My Mom has also recently begun to have bug hallucincations. Yesterday,my sister told me that Mom thought she saw a spider hanging from some flowers in the house. She looked at them--no spider. I think hallucinations can be indicative of a few types of dementia... Get it checked asap

You do not say what his diagnosis is but seeing "things" like bugs is common with Parkinson's (or possibly the medication for Parkinson's)The dementia that often goes with Parkinson's is Lewey Body Dementia and this can be a whole other set of problems for you. A friend is dealing with this with her husband, he also hears noises and is thinking someone has gotten into the house.
If your husband has not been "properly" tested and diagnosed do so as if he does have Lewey Body dementia finding the correct medications is critical.
You might want to give him a spray bottle with water and a bit of lavender oil or lemon oil in it and he can spray to his heart's content and it will not harm anything.

I am glad you have a scheduled appointment with an eye doctor. Make sure they are aware of any diagnosis and any medication he is taking.

This might sound weird but may I ask what kind of cereal he was eating? The organic whole grain bread that I eat has seeds in it and when the seeds fall out they can look like a tiny bug. Are there any Ingredients in the cereal that is the size, color and shape of a bug?
