My Dh finally went and had his hearing checked, just to shut me up---and I went to the 'original' appt where he sat in the soundproof box and listened and responded at the spoken commands. Some of them were so loud I could hear them and I was sitting about 10' away.

Audiologist comes back with the test results: 80% loss in one ear and about 60% in his "good ear". Hubby said "How did you get that test to reflect what my WIFE wanted it to be? He was really, really angry (at me).

Pride was the thing that made him get aids. When the audiologist said that missing out on conversations makes a person look A: 'stupid' and B: old. Wel;, DH is far from stupid, but the looking old thing--that was the final straw.

He went with the MOST EXPENSIVE h/a's he could have possibly gotten, IMHO, the ones from Costco have been just as effective and about 1/4th the cost.

DH watches TV full blast and also watches everything with CC on. I have learned that to speak to him, I have to find him, make sure he's LOOKING at me and then talk to him. Deafness affects everyone around the deaf person!!

Even tho he GOT the h/a's and does wear them pretty compliantly, he still says that I mumble and slur my speech.

Never mind that Grandpa, his mother and his sister and brother all also have profound hearing loss.

Man, if these cheaper ones worked it would have been awesome. I hate to say how much the ones he got cost us!
