Both in your post and your profile you don't mention dementia, yet this is very much dementia behavior. The bathing thing is a very common problem and there are many ways to approach it. In my family we had the opportunity to hire a neighborhood retired nurse who would come and do it for us once or twice a week. You can ask her doctor for medication to take the edge off her behavior. You can pick your battles and only bather her once a week. Others will post their strategies as well. I wish you success in figuring out what works for you both.

A lot of folks especially when they get older are afraid of falling or slipping in the bath or shower. Do you have a slip proof bath mat down in her tub or shower, along with grab bars, and a tub or shower chair for her to sit comfortably while in the bath or shower? All of these things are important to make an older person feel safe and secure while getting either a bath or shower. Also a hand held shower head works great for both as well. Thankfully your mom really only needs a bath/shower twice a week, as you can use extra large body wipes for the inbetweens. And if all else fails, you can do as Geaton777 mentioned and hire an aide to come bathe her, as they usually have better luck with the person than family members do. I wish you the best.

My mom (84) is a nightmare trying to get her a shower twice a week. Every excuse comes up to avoid it. Putting shower days in her calendar has seemed to help.

She has a sturdy shower chair, grab bars and everything to keep her as safe as possible. She adores her sitter. Guess its common with the elderly.

She does a sponge bath daily with body wipes.

Mom is prone to UTI's and doctor said at least twice a week she needs a shower.
