I missed the Medicare deadline, now what?

Welcome, Margo!

You mean the December 7th Open Enrollment?

Have you just turned 65? If so, I don't think the yearly enrollment prefers to you. I did not have to sign up because I started collecting SS at 62. Medicare was automatic at 65. They sent me a cardvin the mail.

Call Medicare today and see if you can sign up.

Did you turn 65 yet? If you'll turn 65 in 2025 then the general enrollment period starts Jan 1st to March 31st. That's when you enroll (which happens in advance). Then your Medicare will start once you actually turn 65.

If you turned 65 in 2024 and missed the 2024 Jan-Mar enrollment, you can probably still enroll in the 2025 Jan-Mar period but there may be a penalty for late enrollment (and you need to talk to a Medicare representative to find out what this is).
