I work full time, my mother has her own health problems and can not take care of my father as well as I can. I will not send him to a home and I can't go part time unless I can find a program that will help me financially. And my parents live on SSDI on a fixed income they can't afford for me to not have a little coming in.

If your parents are on Medicaid, contact social services to see if they are eligible for home care. You may be eligible to be paid through Medicaid. They won’t pay you much though. If you are their POA, most states Medicaid programs will not allow you to be the paid caregiver.

I think the OP said she would not send him to "a home". I am not certain what other options are left for her. The above PACE sounds good for a start exploration?

Most caregivers are paid by parents from their retirement. Consult Area Agency on Aging to see if they know of a program that might help you.

You can check with your county Dept of Health and Human Services to see if you can get paid to be their caregiver. You will need to keep good records to satisfy Medicaid. Also contact your area Council on Aging for resources and suggestions. Many of us on this forum have LOs in care communities, so just want to assure you that if it ever comes to that possibility you can find good places. My MIL is in an awesome place on Medicaid.

Many states have programs like PACE, which does require you to take a Caregiving class to be qualified, and they do pay you, though it is probably only minimum wage, but for some that is enough to keep the parent in their home and under your care. I hope you find the help you need!

Why won't you consider a home, she can go with him and they can both be properly cared for.
