If Mom is on Medicaid for Longterm care you really do nothing. Medicaid and Moms Social Security and any pension she receives will go to her care. Medicare will continue to be her primary insurance. What is not covered by Medicare will be covered by Medicaid. Moms vision, dental and prescriptions will be covered by Medicaid. A podiatrist should see Mom regularly and Medicare pays for that. You will get no statements from Medicaid showing what they covered because they pay all balances. The facility has to except what Medicare and Medicaid pay. Once a year you will get a renewal form from Medicaid. You just fill out the info and send back.

I am assuming you are the POA?
What did the Nursing Home Administration tell you to do about Aunt's SS and Medicaid coming to them rather than to her accounts?

I would speak with administration today if you have no understanding how this will go.

Medicaid automatically goes to the facility. For them to get the SS and pension, I as POA had to sign a paper saying it was OK for them to become payees. Once that was done, they received the SS and pension directly. Never hit Moms acct.

In my home state (MN) anyone can fill out a Medicaid app for someone (if they still have legal capacity to approve them as their "representative" on the form).

How long has your Aunt been on Medicaid? It can require a re-application after the first year, and then if nothing has changed, she won't be required to reapply for another few years. It all depends on her home state.

Medicaid is basically her Medicare now. You don't have to do anything about Medicare.

If you are willing you should just be checking in on her to make sure she is getting the care and protection she needs. Some facilities are worse than others and if she's in a county-run Medicaid facility I would keep a close eye on her and advocate for her as much as possible.

If she doesn't have a PoA she can consider assigning you, if you are local, willing and able. If she doesn't assign one, or now is not legally able to do so... then she will eventually get a court-assigned legal guardian who will manage all her affairs and make all decisions for her in her best interests.
