How old are you? Are you over 62? What state do you live in? Can’t give you suggestions without knowing this info since Medicaid and social benefits programs are specific to each state and sometimes down to each county.

Since you were able to find this forum online you can also search Medicaid for your state and county (Dept of Human Services). Call them and ask. The social workers advocate for you, so don’t be afraid to ask your question.

If you are talking about HUD subsidized housing, No. The one in my community takes 30% of the persons monthly income. Heat is included and electric is a set amount. You would be responsible for the cost of cable. And if you can get basic for that. The rest of the money is yours. You could apply for food stamps if needed.

If you ever need to go into Long term care with Medicaid paying, then your SS is used for your care. Medicaid in some states may pay for an Assisted Living. Again, your SS goes towards your care.
