My mom has difficulty getting her leg to move when she walks. She had the revision surgery done in January 2013, and went through several months of physical therapy. She walks with the aid of a walker, but has trouble with her mobility in that her operative leg shakes and trembles when she tries to move it. She has a severe limp and says that it feels like she just can get her leg to move when she walks. Her surgeon has indicated that the hip is solid but that there was alot of trauma to the muscle since this is the second operation. We've had her seen by a neurologist who did an MRI of her head and neck but did not find anything out of the ordinary. Any suggestions or information is appreciated.

More PT. Getting her into a pool to increase ROM on that leg. Bicycle 6 minutes twice a day. The older you are, the more important it is to do the PT even on days you don't go to PT. Been there. Done that.

My father went through that and it is pure torture for them. It affects every area of your body - kind of like lower back pain - the referred pain is tremendous. Did they consider a hip replacement? My rather had a lot of PT, but his insurance ran out to pay for that portion so I became the physical therapist, walked him around the property and made sure he got strong enough. But he always had to use the walker after that one fall and surgery. What Pam suggested is the best thing for her. If I could have gotten my father into a pool - that would have been ideal! If you have access, please consider it.

I don't have advice on the difficulty, but I know in my community, I was able to get a note from my doctor saying I need therapy in the pool and the community center then let's me go there for free and the pool and jacuzzi are very helpful.

L has also gone through revision surgery. He was in rehab for nearly three months following the surgery. It was needed as he was required to have PT and OT each day twice. He had to use a walker for probably the next four months but then went back to a cane. I am getting ready to have him use the walker again because he is slowing significantly and I am afraid of falls. I don't think he has much longer, just not himself in many ways.
