If he were to go to assisted living or SNF, would Medicaid be able to take the profits from the sale of our home to reimburse for past benefits, or to pay the SNF up front? He has been on Medicaid since his stroke, 7 years ago. I cannot afford to continue to live in this home, so would need to sell and purchase something I can afford. His social security is what enables me to pay for the mortgage currently. I am 60, so I will lose his S.S. income if he goes to a SNF. I work full time, but do not make enough to pay the mortgage on my own.

Find Care & Housing
If he went on Medicaid 7 years ago, they already have a claim to the house. Taking it out of his name was about 12 years too late. The house is exempt only as long as you stay in it. If you die or you sell it, Medicaid takes the money they are owed. See an attorney ASAP.
