My mother is suffering from severe dementia and must be under watchful care 24 hours/day. She lives in a for-profit "memory care" facility which I cannot really afford.

I contacted Medicare and was advised Memory Care and Assisted Living facilities are not covered. If your mom qualifies, Medicaid does cover some facilities for memory care/alzheimer's/assisted living/ but many of the for profit facilities do not accept Medicaid. Hope this helps.

No, Medicare wouldn't cover that. Medicaid might, or cover a similar facility. If you are paying for the facility now, I take it that your mother has no assets that could be used to pay for it -- ? Ask if the facility accepts Medicaid. If they do, they can probably help you apply for it. If not, start looking for a place that does accept it, and start the application process.

Many areas are putting their sites on community care...taking services to the frail elderly in their homes...call your local area aging office at the county or state level...explore NORC and PACE options that may be available
