I am creating this post in response to a closed post several years ago. In 2024 there are several microwaves on Amazon that have programmable controls. Program maybe a 30 second, one minute, two minute and all the others for five minutes, max. Have a great day!

Thanks Paul, for your note to us. I think problems that caregivers worry about with microwaves are often of another nature. We worry for things that should go in going in, and worry about fires, even sort of "explosions" due to metal and so on.

Appreciate your input here.

There are also microwaves that will "read" the barcode on a box and it will cook the product based on the instructions.
This will not help with items you make and reheat or items you need to thaw and heat but it does help with some items.

My first MIL who died aged 99, did NOT have AZ, but found the controls on a new MV were difficult to read and much too confusing. We kept an early MV in the family, because it just had a simple dial. She used it well into her 90s, had no safety issues with it. Just a simple 2 minute re-heat in the same china dish.

The elder has to remember that a microwave is something that you can put food in to cook it. Sometimes this goes away.
