She lives with us, but cares for herself. Very independent and proud, uses a cane occasionally. Walks up & down 16 steps several times a day. Need some sort of activity for her, rather than going to the casino😁 won’t join the senior citizens club... doesn’t want to hang out with old people😂😂😂 any suggestions?

Congratulations to you both!! You and Mom are definitely doing something right for her to be so independent at that age. Document your process and publish it..... you will make a fortune!!

I don't blame her with the senior club.... I'm 78 and won't go hear the club. Nice place, nice people but they don't have any activities that I find remotely interesting. I can read by myself don't need their help. They like Mahjong bingo, card games, billiards and sometime a little ballroom dancing. I still want to ride horse, bike around the neighborhood, do photography and samba. We have little in common.

I agree with AlvaDeer -- if she can afford the casino, let her rock. ask her if she wants to do anything else and then let her go with it.

I am 71. Never been a group person. Have tried but don't like having to be somewhere every week on a certain night. I don't mind baking a cake or cookies, just not interested in being involved all the time. I read, but don't like puzzles, games or coloring. I had my Mom going to Daycare 3x a week to give me a break but to be honest, don't think I would want to go. Not into crafts anymore. Actually, not into people. 😂 I have my friends but really not looking into making new ones.

If Mom is not complaining, don't worry about it. Maybe she likes the peace and quiet. I do. Those "old folk" do enjoy the Casinos. My MIL loved going. Living in NJ, we have them all over.

For 97 it sounds as though she is getting along very well. If she can afford the casino then she is in essence paying for her entertainment. Sounds as though she is living life as she wishes. I am with her. If I make it to 97 I will be quite happy with being able to negotiate 16 steps, go to the casino occasionally and reading. A seniors club would send me into instant madness.
Question. Has your Mom expressed discontent? If she has not why not ask her if there is something else she would like to explore? Perhaps connect her up to Forum on the computer so she can tell others just how she does it!
