My Dad is 80, my Mom is 83. One of her CT Scans 3-5 years ago showed Dementia starting & we also noticed it. She has ALWAYS had insomnia, but for the past year or so, she has been sleeping during the day A LOT & since she's not waking my Dad @ night all the time, we think she IS sleeping most of the evening. She takes OTC "sleepquil" & either an alprazolam or a valium before going to bed.
Our concern is the large amount of daytime sleeping. I am their daughter and have been trying to get her on a daily routine....not working (always an excuse). I want desperately to help my Dad care for her, but I am on 100% SSDI & cannot work, & my Dad said since I can't do much myself, he is concerned for me trying to help him.
I am trying very hard to get her to a Sr. Comm. Ctr. right down their street + I've been trying to get the 3 of us on a daily routine - she is very hard to deal with when it comes to these type of things...do you have ANY OTHER IDEAS.
(We (those closest to her) think she needs to be IN AN SKILLED NURSING FACILITY - her walking with walker is very un balanced and she falls WAY TOO MUCH! But, we cannot afford a Skilled Nursing Facilities -monthly $$ VERY, VERY HIGH.
We are aware of their VA benefit, but even with that, we could never afford one of the "better in healthcare workers" types - we really want her to get into Willow Creek, here in Las Vegas (either on Buffalo Rd or Durango Rd.) it has excellent reviews, I personally know people that were there & it has ranked in top 3 in LV for the past 3-4 years, but, $2800+ / per month is just impossible unless my Dad sold his home, that is completely paid for, but where would he go then!!
Thank you for your time & help - we need an "un-biased case worker type" that can help us with all our obstacles + NOT BE AFFILIATED with a certain facility, do these type of workers exist? I have done a lot of research & spoke to A LOT of caregiver companies here & most have THEIR PLACE ONLY in mind, which is what we do not want. We tried "APLACEFORMOM" & did not get very much help from them. If your "contacts" can assist us without being BIASED to their place of work, place let us know who they are, email addresses, phone # or you can give them mine, AS LONG AS THEY ARE NOT BIASED, PLEASE!
Sincerely,
Patricia
~~~ THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME & ANY HELP, WE REALLY NEED HELP & EVERYWHERE I'VE TURNED / TRIED DID NOT WORK OUT, DUE TO THE "UN-BIASNESS" THEY ALL HAD. ** AFTER I CALLED ALL THE CITY, STATE & FEDERAL AGENCIES HERE IN LAS VEGAS, NV, THE #'S, PLACES, AGENCIES I RECEIVED WERE NOT HELPFUL TO US AT ALL ~~~
So if you have "associates" or reps." that may be able to help us with our really bad situation (FOR MY DAD, THE MOST!!) PLEASE either have them contact me, or send me their info.....thank you for ANY REFERRAL TO ANYONE, PLACE THAT MAY BE ABLE TO HELP US....(my Dad is a (37) year veteran of the United States Postal Service & he pays A LOT EXTRA, monthly for this secondary insurance to Medicare - we are trying to find out if that insurance covers any of the services we need - "NALC" is the insurance. (Nat'l Ass. Letter Carriers). Even if you may know of someone who may know who & what we need, please let them or us know - PLEASE!!!
mapatodd11, please note that those of us who answer on these forums are mainly non-paid caregivers, not working in this field of care.... just folks caring for our aging parents or spouse. The forums are a place for us to exchange items that have worked for us when caring for our own parent(s) or an ill spouse.
