Yes if she is not approved for Medicaid she will be responsible for charges. Do you think there will be a problem? A consult with an elder care attorney that is expert in Medicaid could be a wise investment.

Is there someone at the SNF business office helping you at all? In our case, there was a Medicaid rep who had a desk in the Nursing Home business office. They might be able to guide you a little about whether your mom's application is in a gray area or not. Also in our case the application approval only took a couple weeks, not the full 90 days. Hopefully that will be the case for you too.

Yes in my experience with my mom, Medicaid, and the NH they took her Medicaid pending and it didn't take long at all to get her approved; certainly much less than 90 days. It was probably made simpler by the fact that she had no assets thus not much research had to be done.

Same with my mom. She was Medicaid pending and it took a few months to hear back. She was denied (temporarily) as I had to spend down some cash. I spent down the cash by paying it to the Nursing Home, sent a copy of the cancelled check to Medicaid, then mom was approved. Mom had no assets other than a bit of cash. I didn't consult an elder attorney when submitting my application to Medicaid. I wrote a letter explaining mom's assets over $2K (the cash). I think this is something that can be done instead of paying someone else to do it, especially when there is hardly any money to begin with.

SNF. Is this Skilled Nursing facility? My mother's Long Term Care insurance would not pay the claim because they said a skilled nursing facility meant there was an RN on duty 24 hours a day. I have not found one here in our area that keeps one on duty at night, only during the day and then on call at night. Does your Mom's facility have 24hr skilled nursing care?
