Hi everyone, my father who suffers from dementia and Parkinson's is getting worse and it's becoming more and more difficult for my mum to deal with. I have two brothers living in Washington. They are Canadian though (don't hold USA citizenship). They have a very large house, and are keen to take my parents in with them to help look after them. Our main concern now is the healthcare provided, or lack of. What are they entitled to? How does it work? Could this really stop them from moving there? The house my brothers have is huge, and they can get a housemaid and nurse to help them but can't afford huge medical bills. I am falling apart here and seem to be the only one trying to help my parents have a better life. I would really appreciate any advice you may have for me. Many thanks.
Could this really stop them from moving there? Yes.
I confused though, who is moving from where to where?
You mention that your Canadian brothers live in Washington state with a large house.
Does your father want to live in the US and leave the UK?
If your father leaves the UK for the US, he want be entitled to anything and will be giving up what he has in the UK.
Now, the States will allow anyone to enter the ER on emergency, the person cannot be turned down if they have no health insurance. But the parents will be billed, and it will be expensive to pay out of pocket.
Hope everything works out for the parents if they do elect to live here in the States :)
